George Marrington (b.1999) is an artist based in Surrey, he constructs paintings from an archive of images captured by himself and those close to him. The artist takes a particular focus to exploring the diverse materiality of oil paint. Images used are translated from reference into a new medium, exploring themes of memory, adolescence and uncertainty that are present in the years of early adulthood.
The artist takes a particular focus to exploring the diverse materiality of oil paint. Heavily diluted washes of oil, gestural marks and blocks of colour, highlight not only chance but intention. Thicker builds of oil sit on the surface adding dimension to the figurative elements that feature in the works, the result is an environment rich in colour somewhere between pipe dream and actuality.
