June Chan (b. 2000)
I am a Hong Kong-born artist based in London. My practice predominantly involves ink drawings and oil paintings. Through my work, I take on a subtle yet critical perspective on societal matters, philosophical concepts, and the complexities of the human experience.
This piece featured in the "Shapes & Things" exhibition, "Future", endeavours to articulate our generation's voice. It explores the erosion of our faith and hope, a consequence of contemporary societal challenges such as corrupt power dynamics, profound inequality, and persistent turmoil. The painting employs a subdued palette and ambiguous outlines to evoke a sense of unease, while subtle, colourful spheres in the background symbolise the uncertain transitional space between the present and the future.
